Family members and friends welcomed home five members of the 171st Security Forces Squadron from their deployment to Afghanistan Nov. 18. Assigned to POMLT 2, a police operational mentor and liaison team, the group worked to train Afghan military and police on security tactics.

"It was a longer mission than we're accustomed to, but it was successful because we trained a lot of people and all returned home safely," said Master Sgt. Dave Porter, POMLT 2 team leader. Serving in Ghor province, Afghanistan since early May, the team trained at Ft. Polk, La. and in Lithuiana prior to arriving at their forward operating base in Afghanistan, FOB Shield. Away from home since January, the Airmen said they were excited to see their families, even if it was the first meeting. Tech. Sgt. Mike Broker met his 9-month-old nephew, Coleton, for the first time during the homecoming celebration.
