Pennsylvania Air and Army National Guard conduct joint training with Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency

Pennsylvania Air and Army National Guardsmen from the 171st Air Refueling Wing, the 258th Air Traffic Control Squadron, a geographically separated unit of the 171st, and the 1-104th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion participate in a joint exercise with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) at the John P. Murtha Cambria County Airport in Johnstown Pennsylvania, 15 August, 2014. This proof of concept exercise was to prove a KC-135 aircraft could land at the county airport and provide transportation for the Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (HART) personnel and their equipment along with Pennsylvania Army National Guardsmen and PEMA personnel. This proposed process could increase response time for emergency responders in the event of an emergency. It’s a historic event for the 258th as this is the first time a KC-135, based at the171st near Pittsburgh, will land at the county airport in Johnstown.
