COLONEL TROY E. WING

Colonel Troy E. Wing is the Operations Group Commander for the 171st Air Refueling Wing, Pittsburgh Air National Guard, Coraopolis, Pa. He directs the activity of more than 275 personnel within the group; the 146th and 147th Air Refueling Squadrons, 171st Operations Support Squadron, 258th Air Traffic Control Squadron, and the 146th Weather Flight.

Col. Wing received his commission through the reserve officers’ training corps program at Norwich University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He attended undergraduate pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, Miss. with a follow on assignment to McConnell AFB, Kan. as a KC-135 pilot. In 2012, after numerous operational flying and staff assignments, Col. Wing joined the Pa. ANG.

Following multiple duties in the operations group as a scheduler, training flight instructor and standardization/evaluation pilot. Col. Wing was selected to command the 147th ARS in 2018. Effective August 2022, he assumed command of the 171st OG. The 171st is a “supertanker” wing, operating 16 KC-135R/T models with a membership of about 1,200 guard men and women supporting the missions of the commonwealth and the U.S. Air Force. Prior to his current position, the Colonel was the commander, 147th ARS, 171st ARW.
