KABUL, AFGHANISTAN -- Members of the 171st Security Forces Squadron currently deployed to FOB outside of Kabul, Afghanistan, coordinated a donation to a local orphanage of more than 1,000 pounds of clothes, school supplies, shoes and winter blankets Nov. 2.
Master Sgt. David Porter, team leader of POMLT 2, a police operational mentor and liaison team, arranged the donation with the help of Life Church in Greensburg, Pa. which is also his home parish. He also had help from his other team members, Lithuanian troops serving with the POMLT team and USAID workers. USAID is a government agency created in 1961 that provides U.S. economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide. The Lithuanian Provincial Reconstruction Team assisted Porter in conveying the supplies to the orphanage.
Five unit members, including Porter, have served with the POMLT 2 team in Ghor province, Afghanistan since April. Their mission is training Afghan soldiers and police on security tactics.
