PITTSBURGH, PA - On the morning of January 1, 2009 a group of unit members from the 171st Air Refueling Wing met at the wharf of the Monongahela River in Pittsburgh, PA to join the city's Polar Bear Club in welcoming the new year with a dip in the 38 degree water. By selling Polar Bear Club t-shirts, unit members raised nearly $1300 for Pittsburgh's Project Bundle Up charity. The 171st unit members motto is, "get cold to help a child stay warm." Bittersweet send off for Security Forces team
171st AIR REFUELING WING, PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA -- Twenty-five of forty-two Airmen departed February 5, 2009 for a six month deployment where they will provide security of crucial military base infrastructure and assets in the Iraq area of responsibility. The second half of their team will join them later this month.
